Does geotagging images help local SEO? (An honest answer)
Short answer: it is a minor supporting signal at best — not a magic ranking booster. This is important to say honestly, because a lot of tools over-promise here.
When you upload photos to your Google Business Profile, Google strips the EXIF/GPS data on upload (for privacy and server reasons), so the geotag you added usually does not survive. Independent tests have found no reliable ranking boost from geotagged GBP photos. What actually helps Google understand your location is the visual content of the image (signage, storefront, local landmarks that its vision AI can recognise), together with consistent NAP, reviews and local links.
